Winner of Sailing World's 2003 Boat of the Year Award, the Ultimate 24 is another fine example of Jim Antrim's world class design. The Ultimate 24 offers great performance and features which can't be found on other boats of this size. The Ultimate 24 is a dry, comfortable sportboat that can be raced with a crew of just three. This lightweight, trailerable boat was designed and built to standards that meet any open coastal water conditions. The Ultimate 24 offers a wide range of standard features, starting with a carbon rig (mast and boom). Its unique retractable keel, gel-coat finished surfaces, internal flotation tanks, furling jib, and Harken hardware are just a few reasons why the Ultimate 24 is setting the bar for sportboats. The hull and decks are built with the finest materials – like hand laid balsa and foam cores – all with precise vacuum bagged conditions. Unidirectional carbon fiber reinforcements are used at critical load points throughout, resulting in light weight strength for hull and deck rigidity. 2007 Overall Boat of the Year by Sailing World This boat is very easy to handle and can easily be sailed single handed or competively in regatta racing with just three people. It is faster than most boats of its size, racing competively with J-109's. Hull and mast is 1100 lbs and the keel is 1600 lbs representing a ballast ratio of 60:40, not dissimilar to the AC and RC 44 boats. Hull #40 is very competitive and a one-design conforming boat. This boat has been actively racing in the Pacific Northwest in races ranging from regatta events to overnight 100 mile races. The boat has been dry sailed since new and the sail inventory includes a one design main and head sail and additionally a 3DL blast jib, a storm trisail and a reaching/heavy air asymmetric kite.
