Reality

"That's a cold mother fucker, brother." - Richard Pryor

Reality, that is. And it's especially frosty to Oracle today. In Race 5 they were dealt heaps of reality when Alinghi, well and truly behind after one lap, simply sailed around, over, and under Oracle to clearly establish who's the coldest MF'er of the LVS.

One can second guess Dickson forever, but there is no denying the obvious boatspeed advantage Alinghi had in those conditions. Oracle better hope there was a plastic bag hanging on their keel, or it is more over than it already is. Which is pretty over.

Amazing stuff, really. Just when it was looking like Oracle had actually taken hold of the series by damn near winning Race 3, dominating Race 4, and then jumping out to a nice lead in Race 5, this series was about to take on a whole new perspective.

About to. But didn't. Removing any doubt about how deadly capable they are, Alinghi put the pedal down when they had to, blew the doors off of an opponent who for all the world was looking every bit their equal, and showed the world who will be taking on the Kiwis. Very impressive.

We can hardly wait.
