They're Here

With some amusement we noted that the Editorial in this month's Sailing World (Hello? Anyone Out There?), wonders why they are not getting any letters written in to the magazine of late. Although I am fairly certain they already know the answer to their question, let me give it anyway: They are out there all right, it just so happens that 'there' is here at SA.

Have the guys at SW not been paying attention? Have they not seen what has happened, where the community comes to gather, and the way that information, communication, and interaction has changed, most of it largely due to Sailing Anarchy? Oh sure, we know SW has done their best to ignore us, but the community hasn't, in fact our web numbers are at an all time high, and that is because the game has changed, and we have helped change it.

SW is a fine publication, it has stepped up its game, and is a success because it is pretty good, but the Internet is a whole new ball game for this sport. Specific to writing letters to the editor to a magazine, why bother when you can go to SA, write the same letter, and within minutes receive immediate feedback that then creates a whole new (and admittedly often insane) communication.

And it is often that the SA insanity is compelling. People have enough sanity and rules and "do this, don't do this" bullshit in their lives - they come to SA for a whole new experience. A chance to do and say almost exactly what you want, when you want, and know that there are a whole bunch of people like them who dig the Anarchy vibe. Get it?
