Trans Wack

Who the hell does the TPYC think they are fooling with this last minute Trans Pac rule change, allowing anything up to 98 feet, with no rating restrictions? Why now, and why at this late date? Here's why - Roy Disney and his 86' Pyewacket. Now that Hasso Plattner decided not to modify his near sistership 86' Morning Glory to the "loopholes" in the existing rule (which we understand Disney is willing to do, plus more), and fully well knowing that it was very unlikely that a bigger and faster maxi than Pyewacket would enter the race, TPYC has opened the (barn) door for Disney, not only to finish first, but very probably break the record in the process.

With the rule change, Disney can make Pyewacket significantly faster than she was when she lost to Plattner, who also happened to set the elapsed time record that year. This time, Disney can turbo the hell out of the boat, sail in full speed mode with no real competition and have a very good shot at the record. It smacks of manipulation and certainly is not the first time the TPac rules have been altered to Disney's benefit. Nobody has a grudge against Disney, but this free pass at the record, courtesy of TPYC is amazingly transparent and more than just a bit bogus. Here's hoping the 98' Alfa Romeo shows up!

There is a pretty good article here in our forum and of course you may join in the commentary.
