The Builder

Not many boat builders have accomplished what Eric Goetz has - built some of the best race boats in the world, while building both a successful company and a sterling reputation to back it all up. We spent 30 minutes with him and we hope you enjoy it.

No, not that one, this Innerview is with John Kostecki, one of the most consistently excellent sailors anywhere. His CV is top shelf, and unlike a few others like Cayard or the Bald Ego, we've always liked John, his personality and the way he has gone about being all that in this sport. This Innerview is a lengthy 45 minutes, but there is obviously a million things to talk about and we covered at least some. Enjoy. After you listen, let me know what you think...

Ken Read, a guy who we hadn't heard much from lately seemed like a good candidate to talk to for our latest SA audio InnerView, so we did. Race For The Earth

This Sailing Anarchy Audio Innerview, brought to you by CST Composites, is on a slightly different subject, the Earthrace project and principal Peter Bethune. We think the effort of racing this radical alternative fuel power boat around the world, while spreading the message of awareness about the world's energy situation and laternative energy sources is a noble one. Once again the Ed talks too much, but we think you'll find this Innerview fairly compelling. Enjoy.

The Ultmate Machine?

In many ways BMW/Oracle is everything that is wrong about what now passes as the AC. A soulless, corporate machine, run by an overly intense CEO/skipper, who takes his orders from an overly intense owner, brutally marching to a possible victory, with nary a whiff of anything much other than a relentless Terminator personality. it is a team that doesn't look like it is having much fun, and the notion of what used to be thought of as sport seemingly abandonded long ago. Their pusuit has no almost no limit in what it will spend, and one that if it ends without the win being obtained, will result in the entire multi-million dollar effort being deemed a total failure.

Having said that, they are an impressive machine in many ways, and this 20 minute video, brought to you by Sail.TV, takes a good look at the how this machine runs. Enjoy.

Who says sailing is dying around San Francisco? Get out into the ocean I say. I had sent you a video of the Lightship race out of San Francisco a month or so ago, and this is a little follow up. This is our ride across Monterey Bay at the end of last Friday's Spinnaker cup from S.F. to Monterey. Once again it is from the Santa Cruz 52 City Lights. Our wind instruments were out, but we hit 22kts of boatspeed (with the 3/4 up), which translates into a lot more than 30kts TWS on a SC 52. We were 2nd to finish behind the very turbo-ed SC 52 Kokopelli at almost exactly 8pm. Getting into Monterey in time to make some local waitress's life.. shall we say interesting!
