This Is Why Ocean Racing Sucks.
Apparently SoCal doesn't have a lock on shitty light air "distance" races. This is a short report from the Antrim 27 "Nemesis" (courtesy of the ever intrepid Sportboat) that took part in this past weekends Windammer, a 67 mile race from Frisco to Hippie Ville (Santa Cruz) Usually a breezy affair up in NoCal, this one didn't look like much fun at all. The TP 52 Rosebud won overalll, beating an aging fleet of SC 50's and little-threat SC 52's. Only 12 boats finished out of 53starters. Bad Times.
Gotta hand it to these folks on the Antrim, though. Either amazingly dogged, or amazingly stupid, they hung in there and won the trophy for first boat under 30' on corrected time. -Ed
Nemesis took part in the Windjammer this year as a continuation of our"California Coastal" program. They say this event is either light or blowing from the south. This year is was light and blowing from the south. We started the race directly behind Pegasus 30-4 skippered by Philippe Kahn, and a fleet of big boats. The race took us 25:54:47. Our speed varied between 0.5kts to 6.5kts but did not go much over 4.0kts all night. 12 boats finished out of a fleet of 53 boats. We were last to finish just within the time limit by 29 minutes and 3 seconds.
