A while back we did a preview on a most interesting project ( New School, Old School ), an old IOR Farr 50 being morphed into an Andrews TP 52. It's been awhile since we brought you an update, and here you can see just how far along they are. It certainly is different, and since these guys have always been cool, we hope it's competitive. Tim O, one of the faithful Margaritaville crew and project coordinator gives us this report. Enjoy.

Hi everyone

It’s time for a short up-date. The pace around the yard has been fast and furies. The boat is coming along much better than expected. I have to say that the guy’s a Dencho have done an exemplary job of building and fairing the new cabin onto the hull/deck. These picture’s, I’m sure, you’ll like.

After the old deck was placed on the new hull there were some parts that had to be built and fitted. The Bow and Cabin Top were a big concern.

This is the missing bow piece being formed on the mold. It was then moved to the boat and made to fit. Here is the new Bow piece being shaped and faired onto the hull. The deck joint is perfect. You won’t even know it’s there when we’re done!

You can see the new Cabin taking shape here. The sides are in and the old top pushed up to meet the IMS Regulation. We were forced to make the boat measure IMS to be considered a TP 52. At this point the boat has an almost “One Tonner” look to it!

Lets not forget that the stern had some parts missing also. The old rudder location was filled in and the cockpit sole just aft of the old rudder post was cut and lowered. This allowed us to make the transom lower, in hopes of saving some weight and making it easer to board. We did however keep the old cross-arm for the “Chicks” to sit on!!! Don’t drop your drink though, it will be sent right off the stern!

It’s starting to look more like a “Fast” boat every day!! Here is the cabin top all taped down and now is awaiting fairing. You all might be asking yourselves, “Self, How does Jay like the new boat so far?” Well this picture tells it all. The man likes it so far.

The boat look really good from the helicopter!!!!!

This is the look the competition will have to get use to!! It will be painted of course…

You have to love how this thing is coming along. I’m very happy with the results so far. The new Keel will arrive on the 12th and should open a new chapter in the boats new life.

Take care,

TimO
