Very Fine
Mother
nature or was it the new Commodore put on brilliant pre-summer
weather last Saturday for the annual Opening Day for season
2006/7 at Sandringham YC in Melbourne Aus. With a forecast of
warm sunny 26Deg C and a northerly wind ensuring smooth seas,
the crowds gathered for the Annual Free Beerathon on the Club
lawn; with thanks to the many fine sponsors who provided the
stuff. A fine time was had by all followed by the Official Speeches,
Diz's Blessing and the firing of the cannon to get it all happening.
Special Kudos to the new Junior Sailing Captain for a stirring
inaugural speech. Another blessing for 5 new Optis for the Junior
training fleet and then it was all out on the water for the
Official Sailpast and saluting of the Flag Officers. The usual
atrocities with high powered water pistols, water bombs and
much merriment ensued and accompanied perfect sailing conditions.
Flags were flying, rousing cheers were raised and a wonderful
day was had by all. As usual, it ended up on the lawn again
with further imbibement, a rocking band and later in the evening,
the traditional fireworks display.
The hostilities resume for the first race of the new season
next weekend when we see who has done what to their boats, who
has a new boat or a new crew or new sails. When the flag drops.....
Good luck and fair winds to all; it's going to be a great season!
Bring it on!
