SA Disaster Relief Fund

Because of tax issues, it does not look like we can set up our own SA relief fund. BUT, Dave Holton, Vice Chairman,

American Red Cross has gotten in touch with us and wants us to work with them, which I think is a great idea. Next week we'll provide a link and a mailing address that you all can donate through. I think this makes sense - it lets us as a community do something, and it goes through the best association out there.

Down the road, we'll look into helping the YC's, Junior programs, and sailors. Thanks people.

This is from the American red Cross. We hope that our community can help in whatever way they can. - Ed

American Red Cross

To the Sailing Community and Sailing Anarchy…

We need your help. Though the extent of damage and loss of life caused by Hurricane Katrina is still unfolding; the Red Cross has launched the largest mobilization of resources in history - involving thousands of trained disaster relief volunteers, tons of supplies and shoulders on which to lean. The Red Cross will be there in time of need.

The Sailing Community is like a Family. You understand and put into practice the concept of "Neighbor Helping Neighbor" - be it on the land or on the sea. It is on this simple principle…helping each other in times of need…that the Red Cross was born. I am asking the Sailing Anarchy Family to each of you make whatever contribution you can to our Sailing "Family Members and Neighbors in the devastated areas.

Please send your tax-deductible gift, payable to the American Red Cross today! Mail your check to: American Red Cross - Sailing, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949-2185.

If you prefer to use a credit card, you may mail your card info the information (MC or Visa) with your name, card number, amount, and expiration date to this same address.

Please - if you can - take a moment to send your tax-deductible gift to the Red Cross. Let's come to the aid of our Family and Neighbors in such dire need.

Thank you.

Dave

Reach Out

As the community leader in this sport, we have an obligation to post items of this sort. Again, help when and where you can. - Ed.

PLEASE HELP FELLOW SAILORS: As many are aware, several friends and families in the sailing community have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. In response to their needs, the sailing community in Newport, RI started a fundraising effort to assist the families of the people with whom we work and race. A Bank of Newport account has been established named FRIENDS OF GULF COAST SAILORS.

As of Friday, September 2nd, collections began at the International Yacht and Athletic Club (IYAC) and Cafe Zeldas in Newport. In addition, checks made out to FRIENDS OF THE GULF COAST SAILORS, may be sent to the IYAC (536 Thames St. Newport, RI 02840). A trip to the Gulf Coast has been planned after the Newport Boat Show in two weeks.

Everything that is donated will be given to the families of our sailing friends and items they have requested will be delivered. Furthermore, if you have friends or family in the sailing community who have been affected by this disaster, please let us know and we will do our best to assist them. Since our list is long and growing, we encourage you to help to any extent possible and to spread the word to the community at large.

All questions and inquiries should be directed to Billy Burke (401) 965-8613.
