Anarchy in the TJV

Anarchists Paul Metcalf and Ryan Finn are currently racing in the TJV on Polarity Solo. The campaign has been conducted in the face of adversity - Paul's original co-skipper bailed weeks before the start, whilst Ryan got the call to see if he was available whilst en route to see what was left of his home in New Orleans.

With the help of friends and family, and the support of sponsors JBL, Polarity made it to the start. Equipment was scrounged (Patrice Carpentier supplied a Speedline) or fabricated (a water bottle makes an excellent life belt drogue); repairs and upgrades were made; last minute runs to the local hypermarket and chandlers ensured that the boat was stocked; and the new life lines arrived hours before the scheduled departure time.

Rich Wilson, skipper of Great American II (now Branec IV) dropped by to wish Ryan luck before the race after hearing that a third American was participating.

Paul and Ryan are planning 5 Oceans are Vendée campaigns. Paul is going to sail Polarity down to New Zealand to gain valuable Southern Ocean experience, whilst Ryan is returning to the US to raise sponsorship.
