Rant Boycott This! There was a small controversy here in So Cal in the IOM class over a scoring issue for an upcoming event, and there was a movement from those who were unhappy to boycott the event. This spurred a flury of emails back and forth from the competitors, but the regatta was held anyway. Here is a great 'fuck you' e-mail from one of the competitors who sailed in the event. Good times. What a friggin nightmare! The wind was at the top of the A rig on Saturday and the temperature had to be 75 degrees with the wind chill. Sunday proved to be equally hellish! I for one am so in awe of your boycott to point out the shortcomings of the scoring system that was employed. Incredibly, despite the flawed scoring system, those who sailed well, finished well. I suppose that could only be explained by some freakish anomaly? I think your efforts to influence others so that no one would be there because you wouldnt be there was a stroke of pure sportsmanship of the highest order. Unfortunately, you missed a few as there were enough to have a fun competitive sail. Had you shown up however, you could surely have had some negative influence on that. I think the Argonauts (the model boat organizing body) should in the future think twice before forcing a prime weekend on the IOM class that they might save you the need to expend your valuable time and considerable effort pointing to imaginary short comings. Im interested in hearing what you think of the preferential treatment IOMs are given during club points, surely you have some objection as to how thats going? Or that several classes have had their national championship regattas shoved onto the same day so that the IOMs could have a regional by themselves on the preferred weekend during race week. Isnt there some reason for you to object to that? PS
- this is directed at those that saw fit to boycott and
no one else. The views given here are mine they were
neither reviewed nor sanctioned in anyway by the officers
or other members of the Argonauts. But my feeling is
this was the most ridiculous un-sportsman like act Ive
seen from adults since I coached my kids soccer team
(and that reached until now, the pinnacle of childishness).
My apologies to the rest of you! |
